Welcome!

10th grade visual arts is a semester-long course for the serious art student to focus on refining skills with two and three dimensional media while continuing to apply the elements and principles of design to their artwork. In addition to studio work, the course will strengthen the students’ ability to articulate thoughts about art (art criticism), and their familiarity with artists and art movements in the ‘real’ Art World (art history). There will be a minimum of two major units throughout the semester that include developmental research, exercises, written reflections, analyses as well as studio production. A developmental workbook will be maintained to complete these exercises. At the end of each unit, all students are required to participate in a formal group critique.

In Grade 10, we will focus on the effects of Industrialization and Globalization on the art world in two major units; Cubism and Pop Art. A general overview of the historical and cultural influences that lead to these art periods will inspire studio projects that apply contextual knowledge and technical skill.
